Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present a workshop in soft pastel by award winning artist, Greg Trombly, PhD.  Discover the magic of pastels in a relaxed and supportive environment, focusing on basic drawing and observation skills.  This workshop is designed to provide plenty of hands on guidance, allowing students to work from reference photos of their choice. Students from beginner to advanced are welcome.
 
This course is held April 12, 13 & 14, 2019, 1-4pm.  Emphasis will be placed on composition, color and value.  Greg will begin each workshop with a short demonstration, followed by independent work from personal reference photos and instructor guidance. Students are encouraged to bring a reference photo of a field, forested landscape and flower arrangement. Images will be provided for reference to those who do not bring their own.
 
 
April 12, “Tropical Floral”
Introduction to pastel with an emphasis on basic drawing technique, color and value. Greg will provide a demonstration from selected composition of the palm tree and surrounding floral vegetation. Students will work independently from reference photos while they learn to bring life to their subjects.
 
April 13, “Flower scape”
Review of previous day’s work. Greg will provide a demonstration of a floral composition. Floral arrangements and leaf structure with be discussed. Students will work independently from personal reference photos. Photos will be provided for those who do not bring their own.
 
April 14, “Rock scape”
Demonstration of Rock scape. Flowering plants, juxtaposed to a rock setting will be the focus. Students are encouraged to begin a new project or complete a previous painting.
 
Dr. Greg Trombly holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education from State University of New York at Oswego and State University of New York at Albany.  In addition, he holds a PhD in the Cultural Foundations of Education from Union Institute and University, Cincinnati, Ohio.  Dr. Trombly has been an educator and administrator for the public school system and at the university level.  He has continued art education by participating in workshops from acclaimed artists such as Terri Ludwig and Daniel Greene.  He exhibits artwork in New York, and his artwork is held in private collections throughout the country.
 
 
Although this is a 3-day workshop, individuals may sign up for one or more days as schedules allow. Connect with other artists and learn basic skills in soft pastel. This class is not utilizing oil pastel, rather “soft pastel”. A materials list will be provided. This workshop is designed for beginners however all skill levels are welcome.  
 
 
COST: $30. Members; $35. non-Members per class or $90. – $105 for the 3-day workshop.
