Sunny Fields…
Translated into Danish, is Solvang!

The Danish Village of Solvang was established in 1911 by a group of Danish teachers and mimics a European village. There, you’ll find superior pastries, friendly shopkeepers dressed in authentic Danish attire, windmills, the Danish Maid, wooden shoes, cuckoo clocks, museums, galleries and Danish history.

Thanks to its Danish lifestyle and architecture, Solvang is known as “California’s Denmark” and hosts a million visitors a year to it’s charming village.

Discover the art and history that Solvang is renowned for!
Art Center Morro Bay invites you to join us on a field trip to Solvang where we will visit the Wildling Museum and the Elverhoj Museum of History and Art along with some free time to explore this beautiful village.

Since opening in 2000, the Wildling has hosted and/or organized over 65 exhibitions. They have shared the awe-inspiring works of giants like Ansel Adams, Georgia O’Keeffe, Maynard Dixon, Carl Oscar Borg, and so many more. Their exhibitions have surveyed the early history of wilderness art and showcased contemporary artists like Clyde Butcher, dedicated to bringing awareness to specific wilderness areas.

Explore the quaint village of Solvang where you’ll find great restaurants to enjoy while the group breaks for lunch. Don’t forget to bring home some delicious Danish pastries.

Then, return as a group to explore the Elverhoj History & Art Museum. The Elverhøj Museum is the former residence of one of Solvang’s most artistic families, which is now a community museum devoted to the history of Solvang, the Danish-American pioneer spirit, the colorful heritage of Denmark, and the arts.

The historic hand-crafted structure was the dream home of Viggo Brandt-Erichsen and his wife, Martha Mott. He was an internationally recognized painter and sculptor and she was an accomplished painter and art teacher. In 1950 the Brandt-Erichsens began building their home in the style derived from the large farmhouses of 18th century Jutland in northern Denmark. They incorporated many elements of Scandinavian architecture. Our tour guide will tell us about the interesting history and art of this magnificent home.

Santa Barbara Art Walk Excursion

Santa Barbara Art Walk Excursion

Sep 13, 8:00am - Sep 13, 5:00pm

Sunday, September 13, 2020 · 8am - 5pm

Morro Bay Art Association is pleased to offer an excursion to the Santa Barbara Art Walk.

The Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show was established in 1965 by local artists, inspired by the sidewalk art shows of Europe and the prestigious "Jardín del Arte" in Mexico City.
Sponsored by the City Parks and Recreation Department since 1966, the show is now the only continuous, non-juried arts festival of original drawings, paintings, graphics, sculpture, crafts and photography in the world. Whatever the size, subject, media and price, all are original art, done by the artists you meet.

Approximately 200 Santa Barbara County resident artists display their own original work in an informal atmosphere that encourages visitors to the show to talk with the artists about their work (and in some cases even to see them in action!).
This show is unique in that every artist lives in Santa Barbara County and personally produces each piece that is for sale.
Board a luxury charter in Morro Bay and travel in comfort right to the Art Walk! Then explore the art, restaurants, and local attractions with others. You’ll have approximately 3 ½ hours to discover beautiful art and crafts and do a little Christmas shopping if you care too.

This is a wonderful opportunity to leave the driving to us and is no more expensive than taking the train; and you don’t have to leave at 6am in the morning!

Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing.
Pre-registration is required. Refunds will be given for cancellations made ten (10) days prior to excursion with the exception of a $20.00 non-refundable, registration fee.
