Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present Perspectives.

This exhibit explores how perspective gives a three-dimensional feeling to a flat surface. Linier perspective creates the illusion of distance to a vanishing point. It’s a system of representing the way objects appear to get smaller and closer together, the farther away they are from the viewer. We see parallel lines as converging in the distance, although in reality they really don’t. Roads and railway lines are obvious examples.
Multiple vanishing points such as a cityscapes, enable a more naturalistic representation.
Atmospheric or aerial perspective, creates the sense of distance by simulating changes affected by color such as blue in a mountain as it meets the sky.
This exhibit celebrates artistic expression in all media to include textile, encaustic, mixed media, oil, watercolor, acrylic and photography. This theme extends itself to anything that represents a variety of perspectives.

Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present marine pollution awareness in the art exhibition, Beyond the Sea.

There is a dramatic increase in plastic waste! Everyone agrees that plastic waste does not belong in our oceans or anywhere in the environment. This is a complex and serious global challenge that calls for swift action. Eight million metric tons of plastic reportedly end up in oceans each year and ninety percent of seabirds have ingested it. Reports suggest the world’s oceans will be filled with more plastic mass, than fish mass, by 2050.

Inspired by magnificent oceans and our compelling desire to understand and protect them, this exhibit goes far beyond the fragile beauty of our planet. Among the world’s most immediate and biggest environmental problems, are plastic finding its way into the ocean, washed ashore and fibers reportedly finding its way into rain water.

Artists and activists have taken notice, using recycled plastic for use in their assemblages to create artwork. Although often aesthetically beautiful, the works point to the concerning profusion of these plastics in our environment. This exhibit challenges artistic expression in all media.

Painting pictured, “Typhon Of Petrolia”© by Patrick Watson. Typhon is the many headed son of Gaea (Earth) and Tartarus (the netherworld), who was born cursed and cast into the volcanic regions. Petrolia is a town in Humboldt County named for the first oil well drilled in California. “Beyond the Sea” is on display May 14 through June 22, 2020.

Meet the artists at the opening reception Sunday, May 17, 2pm-4pm. This event from May 14 through June 22, 2020. is free and open to the public. Art Center Morro Bay is open daily, 12pm – 4pm.

Judge of Awards:

W. Truman Hosner will serve as judge of awards during this event.

Born in Detroit, 1950, W. Truman Hosner earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at Wayne State University and went on to study illustration at The Center for Creative Studies, College of Art and Design in Detroit. During his 17 years as a professional illustrator, his assignments included, among others, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Field and Stream magazine, CBS-Fox Video, and Reader’s Digest. At the peak of a very successful career in commercial art, Hosner re-focused himself and studied under two master painters at the Scottsdale Artists School in Arizona, Harley Brown and Dan Gerhartz. Plein-air fine art painting captured his passion. Over the past two decades he received personal mentoring from Max Altekruse, himself a student of the renowned Frank Reilly of the Art Students League in New York City.

Mr Hosner earned the distinction of Master Pastelist Pastel Society of America, Master Pastelist International Association of Pastel Societies, Maitre Pastelliste Societe de Pastel de L’est du Canada and Distinguished Member, Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Paintings by W. Truman Hosner have been featured in national and international museum collections and exhibitions throughout the USA, Canada, France and Asia.

“During a painting session, everything is always changing, the light is constantly modulating and then my painting slowly evolves, becomes dynamic, it pulsates energy and exuberance.”
