Featured Artist, TED LEE EMRICK
Art Center Morro Bay835 Main StMorro Bay, CA93442 Map
Art Center Morro Bay is proud to present the glass and multi-media sculptures of Ted Lee Emrick.
Unique to his aquatic connection to the central coast, and having been a surfer for over 59 years, Ted Emrick’s appreciation and respect of his ocean environment has created a powerful artistic style, conscious of light, motion, time and life.
Ted’s contemporary style combined with inspiration from cave paintings and rock expeditions, offer a dynamic blend of visual storytelling within each unique sculpture! During the past 40 years, Ted has created glass ocean doors and installations, working directly with clients and outlasted many of the galleries representing his work.
This current exhibit has been inspired by the struggles in Ukraine, the bravery of its people and their efforts to be free.
“This new body of work is the first I’ve completed in five years! I’m grateful that Art Center Morro Bay is exhibiting these sculptures as I feel they are important and relevant. For now, I hope it keeps the conversation about Ukraine in the forefront, raising awareness that helps continue funding for refugees of those people who have lost everything!”
Ted Emrick earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cal State Long Beach. His artwork has been widely collected throughout the United States. Personal and corporate collectors include Merv Griffin, Apple, Inc., Morgan Stanley and Caesar’s Palace.
Art collectors will not want to miss these beautifully inspired artworks from his “Shards of Ukraine” series, on display in conjunction with "Broken Nature" exhibit from May 26 through June 27, 2022.

Art Center Morro Bay is proud to present, Under Pressure.
Under Pressure is an exhibition of work by the Central Coast Printmakers, a group of around thirty artists who share a love of printmaking.
In this exhibit of individually hand-made prints, there will be a wide variety of styles and printmaking techniques. Printmakers use many different surfaces such as wood, metal, linoleum and plastic, and methods like carving blocks, etching with acid, and painting materials to print, using a large assortment of papers to achieve these images.
Most prints are conceived and made in reverse, so that when the image is transferred to the paper, it will view correctly. The transfer to the paper is accomplished by hand rubbing or with the use of a press.
Under Pressure will be on display in the Main Gallery, concurrent with “Broken Nature” which will be on display in the Virginia Russel Gallery upstairs, from May 26 through June 27, 2022. This event is free and open to the public. Art Center Morro Bay is open daily from 12pm – 4pm.

Featured Artist - Phillip Lopez
Art Center Morro Bay835 Main StMorro Bay, CA93442 Map
Phillip Lopez began his love of ceramics in high school and to this day, his high school teacher remains an inspiration. After high school, Phillip continued his art education and received a BFA from Cal State University Long Beach with a focus on clay, and an MFA from UCLA focusing on design while specializing in blown glass. While at UCLA he studied with Adrian Saxe and Richard Marquis.
Phillip has also studied at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Dear Isle, Maine as well as Pilchuck Glass School with Dale Chihuly, in Stanwood, Washington.
As a third generation Angelino, Phillip found inspiration in the natural environment. Whether swimming at Zuma beach, or camping in Yosemite, nature and color has always influenced his art. As an avid kayak fisherman, his love of the sea has guided and inspired his current series of work. Hand building, throwing on the potter’s wheel, and creating one of a kind sculptures are all incorporated into Phillip's sense of design, creativity and artistic interpretation.
Phillip is currently living and working in Los Osos, Ca. His emphasis is on color and design, primarily using the decoration method of sgraffitto, which is carving on an unfired clay body revealing the contrasting slip/color of the underlying layer.
Phillip maintained a glassblowing studio in Northridge, Ca for many years, taught high school ceramics and art, and currently works out of his Los Osos studio.
Art Center Morro Bay is proud to present Phillip Lopez exhibiting concurrently with Pastel Society of the West Coast and their 36th Annual, International Exhibition of Pastels USA.
